Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Darren Wendroff served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Panama from 1999 to 2001 in the Community Economic Development Program. Darren was an Army veteran and completed some college prior to applying to Peace Corps. His group trained in La Chorrera, outside of Panama City. Darren was initially assigned to work with a Junior Achievement project in Santiago. After a few months he moved to Santa Catalina and worked with locals on projects that would bring more income and resources to the community. He conducted training in computer skills, web page development, and helped bring internet service to the village. Darren discusses his life in Panama, views on Peace Corps, and his personal growth through that experience. He speaks highly of the Country Director and APCD. After completing service Darren earned a degree in Journalism from the University of Florida. He currently resides in MedellĂ­n, Colombia
