Interview Summary

Anne Wyatt begins by describing her family background, before discussing her marriage to Wilson Wyatt in 1928. Throughout the interview she discusses her husband's career, including his law practice, his term as mayor of Louisville, Kentucky (1941-1945), his work in housing in Washington, D.C. (1945-1947), his managing the presidential campaigns of Adlai Stevenson in 1945-1947, his term as lieutenant governor of Kentucky (1959-1963) under Bert Combs, and his campaign for Senate in 1962 against Thruston Morton. Besides her support of her husband's work, Mrs. Wyatt also discusses her own political activities, including social work she undertook during the Roosevelt administration, her involvement in the Junior League of Louisville in the 1930s and in the Women's National Democratic Club in the 1940s, her hosting dinners at the lieutenant governor's mansion in Louisville, her support of arts and crafts in Kentucky, and her term as president of the Democratic Women's Club of Kentucky in 1963. She concludes the interview by discussing the needs of Kentucky, particularly more widespread education and further economic development.
