Interview Summary
Wilson Wyatt first discusses the municipal government of Louisville, Kentucky in the 1960s and 1970s, particularly regarding the revitalization of downtown and the continual fragmentation of Louisville despite efforts to merge the governments of Louisville and Jefferson County. Among his other topics of discussion are the 1967 gubernatorial primaries, controversy over the Vietnam War in the 1968 Democratic National Convention, the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., the 1968 presidential and senatorial elections, Kentucky governors from the late 1960s into the 1980s (Louie Nunn, Wendell Ford, Julian Carroll, John Young Brown, Jr., and Martha Layne Collins), the state school system, the Appalachian region, and education as the future of Kentucky and the South.Interview Accession
