Interview with Mary Anne Wyatt, June 8, 1987
Project: Wilson W. Wyatt, Sr. Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Mary Anne Wyatt first discusses her experience of growing up as the daughter of Wilson Wyatt, explaining the pressures unique to a child of a public figure. She discusses her own life, in particular her education in the sciences, and her impressions of the places her family lived and of her father's contemporaries such as Earle Clements, Bert Combs, and Thruston Morton. She also discusses her father's career: the role of his law practice in relation to his public service, his managing Adlai Stevenson's presidential campaigns in 1952 and 1956, his term as lieutenant governor of Kentucky (1959-1963), and his campaign for Senate in 1962 against Thruston Morton. She concludes the interview by reflecting on what her father considered to be his greatest accomplishments, namely his work in national government, and by praising his character.Interview Accession
