University of Connecticut Medical Center history; Patterson Family history; Patterson's father's development of a boys high school in Hyderabad-- India while a missionary for the Methodist Church; Patterson's early interest in medicine while growing up in India; Patterson's educational background - doctorate in Chemistry at Ohio State University; teaching chemistry at the University of Vermont and work as Civil Defense Officer for Chemical Warfare for the City of Burlington; attending Case Western Reserve University Medical School; Patterson's battle with tuberculosis while in medical school and responding to streptomycin; accepting a faculty position at Case Western Reserve University and revamping the medical education curriculum; accepting the position of dean at Vanderbilt University and eventually becoming a vice- president.Interview Accession
