Academic Health Centers Oral History Project

Project Summary

These interviews document the history of academic health centers at the University of Arizona, Temple University, the University of Kentucky, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, State University of New York at Stony Brook, the University of Connecticut, the University of New Mexico, Norfolk Medical Center, the University of Florida, and Pennsylvania State University. The founding chief executive officers at each institution are interviewed. Topics include planning a medical center site, developing a physical plant, equipping classrooms and laboratories while recruiting faculty and staff, getting legislative cooperation, fund-raising, and the personal histories of the chief executive officers.
