Interview Summary

Ronnie Sue Jaffe was a member of the Appalachian Volunteers group as part of the Volunteers in Service to America during the War on Poverty in the 1960s. In this interview she discusses how she became involved with the Appalachian Volunteers, the work she did while in the Appalachian region, and why she decided to leave. She talks about the relationships she formed while working for the Appalachian Volunteers and the relationships between the local people in the area and the outside volunteers, including discussion of the claim that the outsiders manipulated the people in the community. She talks about race relations and sex discrimination within the group. She talks about conflicts between the group and various factions within the community.
