Interview Summary

Edwin Ray Benton, born May 2, 1928, describes the history of his family and the Benton family farm. Benton details how he came to inherit what is now 130 acres of land. The land was passed down from Daniel Williams, to his daughter Rebecca Lykins, to her son and Edwin Benton?s father Roy Benton. Edwin Benton inherited the land from his father, Roy, and since then it has grown. Benton discusses the various crops and livestock that have been raised on the farm over the course of multiple generations including grains such as oats, wheat, corn, chestnuts, garden produce, peaches, apples, cattle, sheep, and turkeys. Benton also discusses the various houses that he and his relatives have built on their property over the years, and reflects on the changes Caney, Kentucky has undergone.
