Interview Summary

Katherine Oden describes what it was like to live and grow up in McRoberts, Kentucky. She discusses her children and her husband's work as a coal miner. She discusses local stores, shopping habits, paying with scrip, alcohol distribution, and gardening in the community. She also talks about typical meals, outhouses, and developing technology. She describes the segregated school system, going to a black-only school, and racial dynamics in McRoberts. Finally, Oden shares her hopes for the future of McRoberts.
