Interview Summary
Ashley C. Smith, Development Coordinator for the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center in Lexington, Kentucky (which reopened in 2010 after lying dormant for 47 years), discusses her role at the Lyric; the Lyric?s five-part development strategy and vision as a creative placemaking organization; Lyric programming, events, and exhibits for 2016-2018; the Lyric?s historical and current relationship and importance to Lexington?s East End neighborhood; the lack of any records documenting the operation of the segregated Lyric Theatre (1948-1963); her attempts to fill in some of the gaps in the historical record through oral history interviews with neighborhood residents; her expectations and participation in the Basic Archives Community Workshop held at the University of Kentucky Libraries Special Collections Research Center in March 2016; and her suggestions for further workshop content and for Lyric-University of Kentucky Libraries partnerships.Interview Accession
