Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Krista Cramer served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Agro-Forestry Program in Panama from 1998 to 2000. Originally from Aptos, California, she applied for the Peace Corps while she was working in the chemistry lab for a winery after receiving her degree in Animal Science from California Polytechnic San Luis Obispo. Upon completion of training, she, with the help of the outgoing volunteer, found herself in the town of Tranquilla by Lago Alajuela. Krista worked on sustainable rice paddy farming, bee keeping, building a library in the school, and teaching English to the Embera Indians. After completion of service, Krista stayed in Panama working with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. When she arrived back in the US, she obtained her certification as a radiology technologist, in which she is still working.
