Interview Summary

Mr. Farris begins by telling of how he at such a young age became the executive secretary under Governor Clements in 1948, and describes his duties in that position. He then explains the transition between Governor Clements and Governor Wetherby, and his relationships with both of the men and the rest of their cabinets. Farris commented on the work ethic s of each of them and of their behavior as Governor, and on who had influences on Wetherby and his decisions. He speaks of Wetherby's speeches, letters, and relationship with his constituents. Farris speaks of the Lieutenant Governor "Doc" Beauchamp and his role in affairs during this time. He reflects on politics from the 1950's-1980's and the quarrels that came of which. Farris concludes this tape discussing the election of 1955.
