Childhood in Portland and Louisville, born in 1899, father's work on boats and his death when she was 12, riverfront play including excursions swimming and fishing, adult work to watch-cattle droving, Parks carting, brewery, trains, coal, local baseball teams, games of shinny ( marbles), inventive play with few ready-made toys, early work responsibilities, grocery stores on every block, strict rules in Catholic school, race relations, risks and accidents during play, jobs, Vaudeville and movie shows, children's games.Interview Accession
