Interview Summary
In this interview, C. Oran Little talks further about the pressures put on the extension service including the difficulties of budget cuts. Little states that the local people really have been setting the agenda for cooperative extension activities in their areas of the state. He discusses the relationship between the community colleges of Kentucky and the UK College of Agriculture. Little explains that he worked with the community colleges to encourage graduates to come to UK to work on bachelor's or graduate degrees. He also describes the need for cooperation among the colleges and universities of Kentucky. Little recalls having to defend the work of extension professors and their teaching responsibilities, especially to justify promotions. He discusses challenging student to increase test scores and the troubling issue of what would replace tobacco in Kentucky's economy. He talks about his decision to retire, and the search for a new dean. Little also mentions budget cuts and special appropriations to increase the salaries of county agents.Interview Accession
