Interview Summary

Joan Hamilton, a successful breeder and seller of Saddlebreds, is the owner of historic Kalarama Farm in Springfield, Kentucky. Raised in Washington County, Hamilton shares stories of her family, childhood, and early experiences with horses. She discusses her father, Paul Hamilton, purchasing Kalarama in the early 1960s and tells how she came to the farm to develop its breeding program. Hamilton discusses the breeding and showing success of world champion Harlem Globetrotter, explains how she and her husband, trainer Larry Hodges, operate the farm, and reflects on the challenges and potential of working in the horse industry in Kentucky.
