Interview Summary

Elsa "Bimba" Beck recalls her experiences growing up as the daughter of a wealthy Jewish family in Inbjija, Yugoslavia and her attempts to warn her family to flee after witnessing Nazi atrocities while she attended art school in Vienna before the Anschluss. She recounts the arrest of her father and brother by the Nazis, and her internment with her mother in various places in Italy. Beck relates her immigration with her mother to New York, and recalls some of the abuse she suffered at the hands of German soldiers.
