W. James Host Oral History Project
Project Summary
This project contains multiple interviews with Jim Host. Host talks about his family, childhood memories, including how he became interested in baseball and sports statistics, and his experience playing baseball for UK during the late 1950s. Also discussed is the time he spent as a play-by-play announcer for UK sports and his work with the Kentucky Central Sports Network. Host recounts his association with BLK, the Kentucky Mutual Insurance Agents Association, the Lexington Board of Realtors, the Homebuilders Association, and the Jaycees. Other topics discussed are Host's involvement in politics, including his decision to run for Lieutenant Governor and his work with Governor Louie Nunn, Host's job with the Lexington Tourist and Convention Bureau and his role in the building of Rupp Arena, and his experiences in broadcasting and economic development.Project Code
