Kentucky History: Kitty League Baseball Oral History Project

Project Summary

This project focuses on the Kentucky-Illinois-Tennessee Baseball League (KIT), nicknamed the "Kitty" League. Founded in 1903, it existed as a Class D Minor League until 1955. Interviewees, many of whom are World War II veterans, discuss what it was like growing up near the end of the Great Depression. They describe how baseball was a part of their lives at this time, and recall personal experiences playing in the Kitty League. Some reminisce about playing in Mayfield, Kentucky, as well as their time on the road.
