Interview Summary

Dunlea discusses why he chose to be a second grade teacher after teaching other grade levels. He also shares why he chose to live where he does. Dunlea shares that upon first word of the storm, he did not expect for the storm to reach the magnitude it did and for it to cause so much damage. He also discusses how he and his family prepared for the upcoming storm. Dunlea shares that the mood of the community was filled with a sense of relief because the storm was finally over. He also discusses how his family obtained necessities after the storm.

Dunlea discusses how the program START began. With START, he was able to help affected victims of Hurricane Sandy with their homes. Dunlea shares about how many volunteers have participated, and the artist who created a sign for START which all the volunteers signed. Dunlea describes that the media coverage was not as accurate as he expected it to be. Dunlea talks about some of the things that have returned to normal after the storm and the things that have not. He talks about how it has changed his outlook on the community and what he learned from the storm about helping others. He talks about what he thinks the legacy of the storm will be.
