Interview Summary
Phillip J. Shepherd, judge of Kentucky's 48th Judicial Circuit, discusses his family background, education, and career. He focuses especially on his friendship with Edward F. Prichard and his subsequent involvement with the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, for which he filed an amicus curiae brief in the Rose v. Council for Better Education case, which led to the passage of KERA. He also discusses his work as Secretary of Kentucky's Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet in the administration of Governor Brereton Jones, from 1991-1995; his work as a founding member of the Environmental Council of the States; some of his work as a judge of the Franklin County Circuit Court; and his reflections on the relationship between faith and the law.Interview Accession
