Interview with Heather Hicks, March 16, 2017

Project: Hot Springs, North Carolina Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Heather Hicks?current manager of the Hot Springs Resort & Spa?is fifth-generation Madison County from her father's side, with family residing in Hot Springs and the community of Spring Creek. Here?as we conduct a walking tour on the grounds?she speaks to the profound sense of place that Hot Springs holds, as well as her life-long deep reverence for the landscape. She believes this place to be mystical; and whether one ascribes this feeling to their belief in a higher power or something more metaphysical, they are one in the same. She also speaks to her memories of growing up in Hot Springs, playing on the river; he grandmother throwing biscuits onto the hearth at her someplace in Max Patch; and raising her son on these grounds.
