Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Daniel Rowe served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana from 2016 to 2018 as a Community Health Advocate. Dan majored in Health Sciences at the University of Central Florida, where he met his future wife. They married a few years after graduation and immediately applied to Peace Corps. Their initial training in Ghana was at Valley View University in Accra, and then moved to Addo Nkwanta. Training language was Waali. They were assigned to Nakore, near Kapaguri. They spent the first months doing needs assessments and meeting members of the community. Dan obtained grants to build fifty-four home latrines, and worked with a local NGO to train local masons. They led the cleanup of waste sites and taught children about waste management. Dan also worked with other PCVs to put on a Camp GLOW event. After returning home he was granted a Coverdale Fellowship to attend grad school. Dan discusses the deep connection he made with people he worked with, and how the experience impacted his life.Interview Accession
