Project: The Charles F. Riebe Great Onyx Job Corps Conservation Center Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Griffin joined the Job Corps program with her husband at Great Onyx Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center (GOJCCC) in Mammoth Cave National Park in April 1965 as a nursing specialist. She transferred with her husband to Oconoluftee Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in May 1966. She worked as a part-time nurse and participated in other center activities. As a nurse, she worked with the local doctors and dentists and as a parent she was active and involved with local communities and school activities. Her main contribution to the history of the early days of the Job Corps is her perspective and opinion on various aspects of the local communities and the business and personal relations between the Job Corps staff, the park staff, and the people in the local communities.
