Interview Summary

Debra Snell was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco from 1978-1980. She served in the Education sector. She heard President Kennedy’s speech as a teenager which inspired her interest in serving. Debra was working after graduating collect and attended a recruiter visit. She was allowed to choose the country of service and thought that her French major would be useful in Morocco. Debra taught first and second level high school in Azrou which in in the Middle Atlas Mountains. In the summer she ran a one week basketball camp for girls. Debra returned to Morocco in 2005 as a Fulbright Scholar. She lived in Beni Mellal and kept in touch with current Peace Corps Volunteers. She recounted the time when she and some Volunteers were waiting to fill up the taxi and then realized that she could buy the two vacant seats sending the group on their way!
