Interview Summary

Helen D’Amico Perry served as a Health Volunteer in Morocco from 1965-1967. Originally from San Francisco, CA, she was finishing her last year at San Francisco State University before she was assigned. Training, which consisted of technical, French and area studies, was held at the University of Texas Austin and Galveston before she landed in Rabat. Her first site was in the town of Meknes, at a provincial hospital where she was a lab technician. After she married a fellow Peace Corps Volunteer, they transferred to Rabat, where she worked as a lab technician in a Tuberculosis Hospital. Upon returning to the US, she finished her time at SF State and obtained a minor in French. She and her husband lived in Hawaii, Zaire, India, and Nepal whilst working with the CDC and the WHO in Africa. Helen and her husband now reside in Atlanta Georgia.
