Interview Summary

Baker Beam, great nephew of James B. Beam, is a former distiller at the Jim Beam Distillery. In this interview he talks about growing up on the grounds of the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, Kentucky and about the Beam family. He discusses how he worked his way up a the distillery from nightwatchman to distiller and describes a typical day at the distillery. He talks about the bourbon-making process, gives his opinion on small-batch bourbons, and talks about the bourbon industry as a community. He talks about distilling during Prohibition and during times when the government sent agents to lock and monitor the distilleries. He talks about the Beam family's place in the bourbon industry.
