Interview Summary
Bradley offers some background into her involvement with the craft industry, including her work with the Mountain Arts Center as well as the Center for Rural Development. She discusses the funding structure and the workshops that were offered at the Center for Rural Development as part of the arts outreach program. Bradley discusses the craft fairs put on by the Kentucky Appalachian Craft Council held at the Center for Rural Development. She discusses her thoughts on the gender disparity in the craft industry. She talks about the prominence of crafting as a supplemental income as well as the role that crafting played as a business opportunity. Bradley describes the various reactions to the Appalachian Artisan Center's approach to producing and selling crafts. She discusses the conflict between the production of more traditional crafts and artisans who wish to create contemporary crafts. She discusses the market strategy that the craft guilds and co-operatives look to in order to sell their goods. Bradley discusses the impact that the craft industry has on the state of Kentucky's economy.Interview Accession
