Interview Summary

Manuel Schofman came to the University of Kentucky in 1935 and majored in chemistry as a pre-med student. In this interview he discusses his impressions of the university, the quality of the facilities, and his favorite professors. He talks about clubs, organizations, and social events on campus. He discusses being a member of a fraternity. He talks about athletics at the university including basketball, football, and cheerleading. He talks about the role of women on campus and the strict rules they had to follow. He discusses the interest in politics on campus by both students and professors and talks about their political views, especially concerning Roosevelt and the New Deal. He gives his opinion on how the university has changed over the years and how a college education changes one's outlook on life.
