Interview Summary

Sarah Newby graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1958. In this interview she discusses her family background and economic status, and her education prior to enrolling at UK. She talks about her experiences as an African American student at the university, and talks about her lack of participation in social activities due to her busy schedule, and other students' attitudes regarding her rural background. She discusses whether she faced any discrimination at UK, and talks about Coach Adolph Rupp's reputation within the Black community. She discusses her family life since her graduation, her church involvement, and her teaching career before and after the integration of public schools.
