Interview Summary

In this interview, Sister Sharon Kelly, a religious sister who is a program director at the Bayshore Senior Community Center in Keansburg, New Jersey talks about her experience with Hurricane Sandy. A Queens, New York native, Kelly moved to Keansburg for work and was very happy to discover that the neighborhood and its residents are nothing but generous and positive.

After hearing about the storm, Kelly was grateful to obtain certain things like a generator and a sump pump from people in the neighborhood to help her and the other sisters through the storm. Managing to sleep through the worst of the storm, Kelly went to stay with her brother in Long Island for some time while the neighborhood recuperated. The other sisters opened up a shelter in a local school while Kelly was gone, and when she came back, she contributed in any way she could.
