Interview with Anthony Cavallo, August 20, 2013
Project: Staring Out To Sea: Hurricane Sandy Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Cavallo describes his neighborhood and the school systems and economics there. He talks about his expectations of not getting much water, and not having a "long-term evacuation". Cavallo discusses walking out into the neighborhood after the storm hit. He also talks about how his house, which he thought would never get water, was in fact affected by the storm. He mentions that of all types of support, FEMA made a quick response. Cavallo talks about how the local government and people were more helpful than the federal government. He states that it was very hard to find things to eat since restaurants were not open and running. Cavallo believes that global warming was the cause of Superstorm Sandy. He still feels there needs to be a lot more work done to get things back in order in Union Beach. Cavallo talks about never wanting to move and leave the house his grandfather built for him. He also discusses how he believes that he has been "doing it all wrong" and believes in having the essentials, family, and God.Interview Accession
