Interview Summary

Frank Hale (Paco) served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 1965-1967 in the Urban Community Action Program. His was the 13th group to ever go to the Dominican Republic. Originally from Rindge, NH he had just gotten his degree from Tufts University and was newly married when he and his then-wife, Martha, applied. Training was at Baylor University in Texas, and then Puerto Rico. After arriving in-country, they lived in Simon Bolivar where he worked to develop a Community Center. In their second year, they moved to Villa Duarte. After returning home, Frank returned to the DR while getting his doctorate at Syracuse University to study family planning. Frank has worked as a lecturer at Darmonth’s Medical School and University of Arizona’s College of Medicine. He ran a successful community clinic and is a translator of immigrants crossing the border in Tucson, where he currently lives.
