Interview with Marty Singleton, December 10, 2016
Project: Sara Holroyd Oral History Project
Interview Summary
In this interview, retired New York Metropolitan Opera Singer Marty Singleton recalls growing up in a very church-oriented family. He mentions that his earliest musical experience came from performing in his church with the choir. Singleton came to the University of Kentucky as a music education major and was a part of the original University of Kentucky Choristers cast of "A Shaker Worship Service" arranged by Salli Terri and directed by Sara Holroyd. Singleton discusses the impact Holroyd had on his musical development while he was a student in the School of Music and the way her teachings (as well as the lessons of other faculty members) gave him the necessary background to eventually go on to hold a position in the Metropolitan Opera.Interview Accession
