Interview with Rae Lynn Kursky, August 6, 2023
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Rae Lynn Kursky served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay from 2017 through 2019 in the agriculture program. Her interest in Peace Corps began with a 6th grade teacher who was an RPCV. After graduating from Northern Arizona University, Rae Lynn worked as a hydrologist. She volunteered with AmeriCorps, where she met her husband. The Kurskys trained in Guarambare with cohort 52, studying both Spanish and Guarani language. Technical training focused on gardening. They were assigned to Laguna Pyta, near the town of Acahay. Rae Lynn’s primary work was with a women’s agricultural committee. She also worked with school children, coached soccer, and helped a men’s committee establish a fish farm. Rae Lynn discusses her experience living and working in a foreign environment, and values that she learned. She misses the cultural exchange that Peace Corps service provided, and would consider similar future opportunities.Interview Accession
