Interview Summary
This interview with retired mathematics professor Khadija Minhaj Umar begins with a discussion of her childhood in Aligarh (India). She talks about her family, as well as her convent education and time at Aligarh Girls College. Umar then talks about her marriage and her migration to Pakistan. She talks about her daughter, who contracted diphtheria and later passed away shortly after migration. Umar also briefly discusses the refugee crisis that resulted from the creation of Pakistan. Next, Umar talks about her teaching career and her time in Dhaka (Bangladesh). The interview then moves on to a discussion regarding modesty requirements in the Islamic faith. The two also discuss politician Sheikh Abdullah, whose daughter attended school with Umar. The interview ends with Umar reflecting on the current state of Pakistani politics, as well as a discussion about her children's careers.Interview Accession
