Interview Summary

Paul G. Sears served as a tail gunner with the 350th Squadron of the "Bloody 100th" Bomb Group. He was stationed in England, and he describes missions over Paris and Stuttgart. On his tenth mission, to Bremen, his plane was shot down, and he was taken to an interrogation center in Frankfurt. After three weeks in solitary confinement, he was sent to Stalag 17 B, a prisoner-of-war camp in Austria. Sears discusses his experiences as a prisoner of war, including his treatment for pleurisy. He concludes with an account of the prisoners' forced march out of the camp and their transfer to American control.
