Interview Summary

Former press secretary to Governor Breathitt, Mr. Mills began working for the Lexington Herald in 1968. He discusses the newspaper's coverage of the civil rights movement, the paper's relationship with the African American community during this period, and problems faced by the African American community as a whole. Mr. Mills recalls Fred Wachs, Governor Edward T. "Ned" Breathitt's administration regarding civil rights, as well as Mr. Mill's editorial on the Lexington Fire Department. Also included are the Equal Rights Amendment and the lack of affirmative action.
