Interview Summary

James Gilbert Edwards, who grew up in Louisville, Ky., served in the United States Navy, from 1941 to 1947. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and attended boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. He was assigned to the heavy cruiser USS New Orleans and was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked in December 1941.
