Interview Summary

Leif Donde describes his childhood as a Danish Jew, discussing also the relation of Danish to Jewish culture. He tells of his family's increasingly dangerous circumstances in German-occupied Copenhagen, leading up to their eventual escape to Sweden. He describes his family's new situation. He concludes by reflecting on his understanding of World War II as a child, his family's assimilation into non-Jewish culture, and the uncomfortable memory for the Danish of the mistreatment of their Jews.
