Project: Jewish Kentucky Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Amy Groswald talks about her childhood in Carmel, Indiana. She recalls going to Hebrew and Sunday school every week. She talks about some of her favorite holidays like Rosh Hashanah and Passover. She says that throughout high school she grew apart from her faith, so that is one of the reasons she joined Hillel at UK. Groswald explains that coming to UK was a culture shock for her because of the small Jewish population on campus and around Lexington. Groswald is a part of many diversity councils on campus where she is asked to represent the Jewish student population on campus. As of 2018, Groswald is the current president of the Hillel student organization on UK’s campus. She discusses some challenges she faced while being president, like getting people to attend events and getting them more involved. Groswald is involved in many diversity councils on UK’s campus where she is often the sole representative for Jewish students. Groswald is a member of Alpha Delta Pi and discusses how being in a sorority has impacted her faith. Groswald discusses some generational changes between her grandparents, parents, and herself.Interview Accession
