Interview Summary

Godfrey Shell and Stella Shell talk about their school and life in the county when they were young, including home remedies for a number of issues. Both talk about music played at home and of socializing after work. Mountain funerals and local preachers are also discussed. After leaving school, Godfrey Shell says he worked in farming and in the coal mines. Both talk about living through the Great Depression. Godfrey Shell's experience as a soldier during World War Two is mentioned, and he concludes by contrasting values of modern times to his youth.
