Interview Summary
Jeremiah Harville, a special victims unit detective in Lexington, Kentucky, discusses stalking from a law enforcement perspective. He talks about how a law enforcement officer identifies stalking behaviors, particularly by repetition of behavior over a long period of time and the impact on the victim. He discusses the difficulties in prosecuting and proving stalking cases, as many victims do not want to cooperate with police for a variety of reasons. Harville then talks about perpetrator behavior, discussing one case from Fayette County in particular. He discusses the impact of stalking on the children of the perpetrator and the victim and the effect a child may have on victim reporting. Harville talks about how law enforcement can become more aware of stalking behaviors and work with victims for cooperation in a prosecuting case.Interview Accession
