Interview Summary

Joseph Paparella was an umpire in the American League (Major League baseball). In this interview, he talks about the beginnings of his umpiring career, Happy Chandler as baseball commissioner, baseball managers and players he knew, the influence that Cal Hubbard, a fellow umpire, had on him, the worst places to umpire, the 1948 World Series, changes in baseball since the 1940s, television's effect on baseball, and the growing popularity of night games.
