Interview Summary

Ilka Balk discusses her upbringing and education in Germany, marrying and moving to the United States, and her initial career in Washington D.C. as a political consultant. Afterwards, Balk goes into her duties in the University of Kentucky Cooperative Education Program, and joining the James B. Beam Institute. Balk continues by discussing the bourbon industry and her role in it, from broader industry shifts to the experience of being a woman in the industry.
