Interview Summary

Tim Belcher describes the early days of Elkhorn City, including the businesses and the rough atmosphere of the time. He talks about the town's Civil War connections, and some of the historically prominent families in the area. He speaks of his issues with the coal industry, specifically regarding mountaintop removal. He says that he disapproves of the harm that it causes the natural environment as well as the brainwashing of coal miners by the mine operators. Belcher talks about the beginning of the Elkhorn City Heritage Council, which he and Bill Ramey began.
