Interview with Irving Milchberg,
Project: Voices of the Holocaust Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Irving Milchberg discusses the Warsaw Ghetto, explaining that he was on the outside at the time of its formation. He was then sheltered by Poles, he explains, who were nonetheless anti-Semitic and wanted him to leave as soon as the war was over, so that the neighbors would not find out that they had been sheltering a Jew. He describes his week in hiding until the city's complete liberation by the Soviet army, as well as his subsequent escape from Poland out of fear of the anti-Jewish rumors that were circulating. He describes the smuggling activities that he then undertook.Interview Accession
