Interview Summary

Hazel Ratliff was working in the cafeteria of Pikeville Methodist Hospital when the strike began. In this interview, she discusses the transition from Appalachian Regional Hospital ("the old hospital") to Pikeville Methodist Hospital ("the new hospital"), the lead-up to the strike, the night the strike began, and her many efforts to attempt to unionize the hospital. She talks about testifying in court, traveling to gain support for the strike, boycotting other businesses, and violence on the picket line. She talks about her tactics for secretly gathering information about the hospital during the strike.
