Interview Summary
Helen Fisher Frye earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Kentucky State University, her master's degree in secondary education from Indiana University, her school administration certification from Ohio State University, and her master's in library science from the University of Kentucky. In this interview she discusses her family background and her childhood in Danville, Kentucky, including her education in a segregated school. She talks about her experiences as a student at Kentucky State, and Indiana University.Frye talks about why she decided to attend UK to become a librarian. She talks about the discrimination she faced at UK, including threats, being ignored by professors, and not being allowed to enroll in extension courses. She talks about her career as a librarian in Danville after her graduation, and her experiences with school integration.
