Interview Summary
Betty Leggett joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and was a graduate of the second class of WAC officers in World War II. In this interview, she discusses her childhood in Sewickley, Pennsylvania and her father's military service which inspired her to join the military herself. She describes her adjustment to military life, her WAC training experience, and her work at the Pentagon in the Military Intelligence Service analyzing intercepted Japanese messages. She talks about her husband, who was captured as a prisoner of war and describes their reunion upon his return. She describes their life after the war and gives her opinions on women's contributions to the war effort.Interview Accession
