Interview Summary
Phaon Patton, Clerk for First African Baptist Church, Lexington, KY, gives a tour of the current church building (built 1983), especially the features that were incorporated from the previous building on Short and Deweese Streets in Lexington; and discusses church history (the congregation was established about 1790); her involvement with the church and how she came to serve as Clerk and her work duties (from 2001 to present); the church's historical items, which include furniture, three-dimensional objects, bulletins, membership lists, photograph albums and photographs, and audio recordings of sermons; her plans for and questions about managing the archives; and her reasons for attending the Basic Archives Community Workshop at the Special Collections Research Center in November 2015 and March 2016, what she learned from the workshop, and ideas for the future.Interview Accession
